Rain Barrels

Just thought I'd make a quick post on an item I saw in the paper yesterday. The MWRD of Chicago is offering inexpensive rain barrels to folks in the Chicagoland area. Just look under the "Public Interest" section of the website. It might be a little cold for some of us to be thinking about stuff for the outside of our homes but spring is just around the corner (I hope).

They help conserve on water usage in the garden and reduce the amount of stormwater runoff. I've already got a couple and may get one more for the other side of the house.

Ed Begley, Jr. will be so proud of you! I have always thought that rain barrels were a great thing. I can remember my grandmother's! She used to use rainwater to wash her (and my) hair with. Makes your hair so soft!

I wish our community would offer rain barrels. Kevin would love to have another project. I guess living in a city like Chicago has a ton of perks when compared to Podunk, PA.

If you have a barrel - look at getting the DIY rain barrel kit from www.Aquabarrel.com = they rain barrels too and lots of other really cool downspout filters and diverters.

It's just about the right time to think about this for us- I want to get this done before the winter, so the spring melt will have a chance to make it in there, too.
