How high do these things get???

The eave of my garage is 7'-6" above the ground. I am really not kidding about not renovating the garage and planting sunflowers instead.

I took a similar approach...put up invisable netting on the garage and have beans growing up it :-).

Although I haven't looked closely, I've rarely seen sunflower plants for sale...did you grow these from seed? If you bought them as plants, can you tell me where (I'm in the area and will be probably looking to grow sunflowers next year). Thanks!

Oh, and, stuccohouse...my dad told me stories of his father doing exactly the same thing back in the day. I thought it was a great idea. :)

Or you could plant Fortex green beans like I did (on the side of my house in Beverly). These suckers have gotten over 8 ft tall and are still going. No exaggeration. Lots of vines, big leaves, lots of beans. Very cool.

The sunflowers were part of the "wildflower and hummingbird" seed mix I threw around the yard. Most of these were transplanted from other parts of the yard. I love the beans idea - my neighbors did that on their fence but all the beans are showing up on their neighbor's side so they can't harvest them.

Christopher -- sunflowers are one of my favorites -- I threw a bunch of seed in Mark's old sand box out back. It was one of those sandboxes that Uncle Steve made -- just putting it directly into the ground. It's full of cosmo's sunflowers and zinnias. Love the many shapes, sizes and colors. I almost forgot about your blog -- glad I dropped in -- everything is really coming along for you. I have been working hard on my back yard -- until I went to Tena's -- now that I'm home -- it's been too hot for this old lady to be digging -- so I have just decided to read and float in the pool. Talk soon. Love AC.
