A Tiki Bar for Your Home

We took a short vacation last week and spent Thanksgiving with our family in Florida. Instead of boring you folks with images of us and Mickey, I thought it would be appropriate to blog about my brother in law's bar. It will probably be the envy of most of the "retro" folks visiting the site but I think anyone putting time into renovating their home can appreciate it. He built this tiki bar himself, I am guessing over 12 years ago, and it has followed him from apartment to apartment and finally to it's current location at their home in Orlando. It is pretty impressive - it takes up a corner of their home and showcases his collection of all things tiki: a lot of items "borrowed" from various drinking establishments and others purchased from artists over the years.
They have recently completed some renovation work, moved the bar and made a small seating area next to it. The only thing he has left to do is find a way to showcase his tiki mug collection, most of which was given to him by yours truly. Finding these little things has given me insight into some of the tiki-nuts out there and has given me an appreciation of this mid-century phenomena.
This bar, though different in style from what we intend on building at the Tinybungalow, has become my inspiration. A lot of time and care has gone into it and sitting around for the occasional mai tai... or two... or three..., has become an annual ritual for the family.

Thanks for the nice comments. We always enjoy sharing a cocktail...or two with you. Wish it could be more often.

Oh, now that is one good-looking tiki bar. Love it and all the tiki drink cups, too!
