I decided to do the circle the old fashioned way: I used a compass and some washable markers to trace out a circle just slightly larger than the brush I have. I then free-handed it. It came out pretty good and will look even better once I go over it with a second coat or orange. The orange and blue us starting to grow on me and I think I am not going to add another color (white) but will just play with the striping with alternate color outlines instead. I think that will punch it up enough. Wow, If I don't become the self-critical perfectionist, I might actually have this thing done in another day.

Aw, this makes me miss all those art projects I did in high school.
Those look awesome! I'm working on a set for my Dad. I'm putting a Chicago flag design on them. I did the stripes with tape and only got a little bleeding, but I made a stencil for the stars and got a lot of bleed. Probably should have taped those too, but I thought I'd have issues with the interior corners.
Michael, you should check out the stenciling entries in my blog. I wonder if some of the spray I used would help. It worked winders for the bleeding (or lack of) when I stenciled the bedroom. Good luck.

Also, good luck figuring out what to give your daughter with a big orange S on it... :)
