A few flower pics and the intruder returns

Last week my mother in law was in town and we really thought that the irises, that appeared to be on the verge of blooming, would bloom while she was here. She left on Monday and they were still closed. Wednesday, they looked spectacular. A few other things happened this week. First, the weekly ritual of donuts at the OP Farmer's Market started. It might be a little easier getting up on Saturday mornings now. Also, I haven't seen our bunny in a while. Actually, I think it's been about two months. Yesterday, while picnicing in the back yard, this little guy joined the party. He's amost so small, I thought he was a mouse. He already chewed off the top of one of the quickly-growing basil plants. The bunny wars resume...

Familiar faces and places

It was back to the bedroom this weekend. I finished stripping the wood along the west wall. This leaves one wall to go – unfortunately it is the wall with the most woodwork because the windows are on it. If all goes well, I will have everything stripped, except for the closet door, after the coming weekend. I feel like I have been in this room forever and ever picture I take seems to look the same.
After an absence of almost a month another familiar thing was back at the Tiny Bungalow this weekend: the bunnies. Actually, it was just one bunny. I guess he just waited until the garden was nice and grown so that he could fatten himself up. Just look at that defiant bunny stance! The cocky little bastard will probably end up eating all my hard work.
Oh, I also bought the cedar for my Adirondack chairs this weekend. I will begin working on those next weekend. It is pretty sad when buying supplies becomes a note-worthy accomplishment.

The Invaders, Chapter 2

It seems that someone likes bunnies much more than 2 and 1/2 year old little girls. When I walked out this evening I spied the neighbor's cat carefully searching through our landscape debris.
I am sure that these little bunnies are a delicacy compared to the dried meow mix sitting on the back porch. The kitty hung around for a little while, pawing through the branches, just searching for a way into the rabbit hole.

Unfortunately, he was stunned by my camera and he took off. I feel kind of like Marlin Perkins - if only I had a better cinematographer! I imagine there will be more to this story.

Invaders

Can you find what is wrong with this picture? At first glance, you will surely see our big piece of plastic crap, the pile of brush in the back (I really need to get off my ass and make that into a proper compost bin), and of course you will see the that the hostas and raspberries can still grow - even without yards and yards of landscape fabric wrapped around them.
When you look a little closer, you'll notice that we have invaders. Mommy rabbit has been very busy this winter and we now have bunnies. We saw the first one a couple weeks ago and then we saw another. Well this morning we were shocked to notice that there are actually three of them - I hope to God there aren't any more. Bunnies are cute, right? Everyone loves bunnies (particularly 2 year old little girls - my daughter just about went ballistic when she saw them). Don't let all that cuteness lull you into a false sense of security - a war is on!!! They have started nibbling away at our hostas (which is fine, they could use some thinning out. They started to cross the line by nibbling on the phlox. This morning, they went too far. they were nibbling on the raspberries! How dare they!!!

For now, I will lay low and watch their every move but when the time is right: ATTACK!!! Actually, I won't be attacking them. I will just be mulching their home. As I said, they are cute and having one or two around is not the end of the world but 4 (yes mommy is still around) is a bit much. Hopefully this will make them move on. Then again, I hope I am not drawing some line in the sand with them because there are more of them then there are of me.
